Weekly Art Tip 6 Tips for Drawing Light Fur on Light Paper
6 TIPS FOR DRAWING LIGHT FUR ON LIGHT

1. Build a Mid-Tone Base
Start with a soft layer of mid-tone to separate the fur from the paper. This gives your highlights something to stand out against.

2. Use Subtle Shadows
Add soft, cool shadows in areas where fur overlaps or recedes. They bring dimension without overpowering the light tones.

3. Layer Gradually
Work in thin, light layers to avoid losing texture. Let each layer peek through for a natural look.

4. Focus on Edge Contrast
Darken areas right next to the fur edges so the coat pops against the background.

5. Blend with Care
Use minimal blending—too much can flatten the light fur. Keep strokes visible for softness.

6. Accentuate Details
Pick out whiskers, tufts, or subtle fur direction changes with a sharp pastel pencil for crispness.
