Weekly Art Tip – 6 Go-To Color Combos for Common Fur Types
6 GO-TO COLOR COMBOS FOR COMMON FUR TYPES

1. Black Fur
Start with deep navy or dark brown underlayers, then add true black on top. Use cool grays for highlights and avoid using pure black everywhere—it can look flat.

2. Golden Fur
Layer warm ochres, raw sienna, and burnt umber. Add yellow ochre and cream for highlights, and deepen shadows with burnt sienna or a touch of violet.

3. White Fur
Begin with cool grays or light blues in the shadows, then build up with cream and warm white. Avoid using pure white except at the brightest highlights.

4. Brown Fur
Mix raw umber, burnt sienna, and terracotta tones. For variety, add cooler browns in the shadows and warmer reds in the sunlit areas.

5. Gray Fur
Blend layers of cool gray, slate blue, and touches of violet. For warmth, add hints of beige or taupe in the highlights.

6. Ginger/Orange Fur
Use burnt sienna, terracotta, and orange-red. Balance with cream or pale yellow for lighter areas and deepen shadows with darker browns.
