Weekly Art Tip – 6 Quick Fixes for Smudges Without Ruining Your Drawing!
6 QUICK FIXES FOR SMUDGES WITHOUT RUINING YOUR DRAWING!

1. Blot, Don’t Rub
If the smudge is fresh, gently lift it with a kneaded eraser. Press and lift repeatedly instead of rubbing to avoid grinding pigment into the paper.

2. Use a Soft Brush
A small paintbrush or makeup brush can sweep away loose dust before it settles. This prevents smudges from spreading further.

3. Cover with a Light Layer
If the mark is faint, simply layer over it with the correct pastel color. Pastels are forgiving, and new layers often disguise mistakes well.

4. Blend Strategically
Turn a smudge into shading if it happens in a shadowed area. Softly blending it into your existing strokes can make it look intentional.

5. Scrape Carefully for Small Fixes
For stubborn marks, use a craft knife or razor edge to gently lift pigment. Be careful not to damage the paper texture.

6. Plan Around Irreversible Smudges
If a smudge won’t disappear, adapt—turn it into a darker patch of fur, a shadow, or a background texture. Creativity can save the day.
